Mission
Our mission is to advance and promote the critical articulation, development, and circulation of writing from diverse curatorial perspectives. We empower expanded curatorial publishing that reaches far beyond institutional, academic, and market confines. We champion a wide range of writing experiments across/beyond textual genres and publishing platforms, which manifest diverse intents and approaches to curatorial thinking and enact the performativity of curatorial practice. We claim space for rigorous, accessible, and fearlessly risk-taking writing that circles through the work of contemporary artists and around exhibitions in unexpected ways, pushing its own limits and welcoming an expanded community of readers in the process.
To fulfill this mission, we commission, support, and publish urgent, affordable, and exquisitely designed books in collaboration with Canadian and international publishers and distributors. We also convene gatherings, conversations, and occasional events. Our publications’ careful arrangements of words, images, editing, and design articulate curatorial approaches to space, screen, sound, stage, and audience. In every project, the relationship between content and design translates curatorial modes of encountering works and worlds. We believe that this commitment can challenge long-established institutional structures, support the expression—and reception—of Indigenous sovereignty, welcome rarely-heard voices, foster the emergence of a more equitable, thoughtful, and dynamic arts ecology, and weave more intimate relations with our readers and listeners.
